Bill Gazes Profile

April 14, 2006

Bill Gaze - You know that expression, “those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach?” Well, ever so often you come across a fellow who not only can and does, but wants to teach as well. That’s the kind of teacher you want. One day in the near future some Las Vegas high school kids may sit down on their first day of class and be treated to a discourse on the best way to check raise Gus Hansen in a short handed game when you are half-stacked and on a nut flush draw; that is, if Bill Gaze makes good on his promise to be a teacher.

Bill wants to teach, even going so far as to make a high stakes wager with a fellow professional poker player, Vegas pro Yosh Nakano, that he would be a teacher someday. (These pros and their proposition bets…). Of course, it won’t likely be pro poker that Bill is teaching, all though if the school is in Vegas, it may. But a fellow who has been a pro gambler for a decade might have a hard time keeping his poker playing experiences out of the curriculum.

Hailing from New York, New York, Bill is married to another professional poker player, Kristy Gazes, and while he has not yet secured a number one spot on any big poker tournament final tables, he certainly has been able to make a living playing the game. Cashing in six World Poker Tour events and making plenty of money finishes in his ten years of play, Bill is a very respected No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament player. His strengths in the game are centered around his math skills, and he has snared pots as big as $700,000 plus. It’s a good thing there are records for who wins what at pro poker, because after Bill tells you his favorite food is broccoli, pretty much everything he says after that is suspect.

Keep an eye out for Bill on the pro circuit and in a class room near you.
