Born in Canada in 1975, Isabelle Mercier is a world traveler equally at home in American casinos and anywhere else the international sport of poker is played. Attending the University of Montreal in pursuit of a law degree, she hit her goal and practiced commercial law for a year. After moving to Paris she began attending Sorbonne University where a Master degree in International Law was the goal. This time, however, she became sidetracked when she took a job as the poker room manager for the Aviation Club de France (ACF) which marked the first step on her journey to become a professional poker player. Now poker-show promoters and poker fans alike have the ACF to thank as Isabelle graces poker tournaments around the globe with her brunette locks and winning smile. Her poker game’s not too shabby, either.
Listing Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and Gus Hanson as the poker pros she fears most to face across the felt; it turns out Isabelle’s building a reputation for being intimidating herself, especially with the glare that earned her the poker nickname, “No Mercy.”
Isabelle’s poker life has been a well-rounded one; while poker manager for the ACF she commentated a number World Poker Tour Championship events that were held on site and also wrote about poker for a number of sources. Her comfort level in and around the world of poker has certainly contributed to her presence of mind when she is seated among the sharks, doing her best to out-shark them all.
Like many of the up and coming stars of poker, Isabelle has her own website, www.isabellemercier.com, where fans glimpse a bit of No Mercy Mercier in her element via the photo gallery, sign the guest book, and keep up on the many tournaments and televised appearances of this 30 year old pro.
Her poker accomplishments should guarantee a steady stream of attention for Isabelle; 2nd in the Amsterdam MCOP 2002 No Limit Hold'Em, 5th in the Amsterdam MCOP 2004 No Limit Hold'Em and beating out some of the biggest names in poker to win the World Poker Tour "Ladies Night Out II" Championship title go a long way towards proving that she’s “got the stuff.”
For those who fancy a chance to take on Isabelle at her own game, she is a frequent player at Pokerstars as well as a member of the Poker Stars team. She tries to get in a tournament every day to sharpen her skills, so if she isn’t scheduled for a big event like the World Series of Poker, you’ll find her there, playing under the name Mercedez.
