Poker Pro Hevad Khan Profile
September 30, 2007 - Chris Welsh
The 22 year old from Poughkeepsie knows a thing or two about multitasking. Hevad Khan is his name, and bulldozing is his game—at least, that's what he would tell you. He might be trying to pull the wool over your eyes, however. Khan, who won nearly one million dollars during a final table run at the 2007 World Series of Poker, was first known as "RaiNKhaN". Now a member of Team PokerStars (read the PokerStars room review here), at first people thought he wasn't even a real person.
Hevad has always been an avid video game player. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Starcraft- games that required great reaction time, the ability to think quickly under pressure, and a long term strategy. While a student pursuing a number of degrees Hevad was introduced to online poker, something that he quickly applied his video games skills to.
He would start with a small bankroll, build it to a few hundred dollars, and then a grand, and then cash it out and—as he said in a recent ESPN interview from the WSOP—"go buy T-shirts, and some going out clothes." After a while he realized he could make some serious money if he tuned in to the game. He got so good that, with only a semester of school left to go, he dropped out to play full time.
Khan's multi-tasking ability served him in good stead in Sit and Go games, single table online tournaments. He soon found himself multi-tabling these events, playing many at once. As he realized that he could add more and more games without any downside—still able to concentrate enough to play well—he was up to twenty games and more. It was then the rumors started.
People thought RaiNKhaN was a bot. Eventually Khan found online accounts locked and was forced to film himself playing more than 20 games at once. His accounts were released when poker rooms viewed the video, and his funds unfrozen. He might have remaned an internet legend if he hadn't decided to play the main event of the 2007 WSOP.
At this event Khan showed that he was a true character, whooping and dancing in his seat, screaming "Bulldozer!" when he would aggressively take down a pot, and generally making his presence known. After taking down sixth place and $900k, it was no surprise that PokerStars signed him up to be part of their Team.
(Editor's Note: You can play Hevad under the name RaiNKhan" at PokerStars.com. All you have to do is sign up!)
