Roland De Wolfe
August 15, 2007 - Chris Welsh
You know what they say about those who teach, right? "Those who can't do, teach." Well, they say that about writers, too, and with a lot less love. Thankfully writers the world over have Roland De Wolfe to point at and say, "so there!"
Although, being writers, they will hopefully come up with something a bit more eloquent. Roland, who according to rumor will soon be adopting the nickname "The Paladin", (well, he should, anyway) started out in the poker world as a writer. The poker journalist, after a stint with Esquire, landed a role with Inside Edge and soon was on the poker circuit, writing up the comings and goings of the poker pros, the newcomers, and who sucked out against whom. One can hardly write about poker without knowing how to play the game, however, so it wasn't long before Roland was experiencing his own bad beats, hot runs, suck outs and all the other buzz words.
Once a reporting jaunt put him on the Party Poker Cruise it seemed inevitable that he would begin playing more and writing less. He began to play in events he previously reported on, cashing in some and winning others. Being a sharp reporter in the Modern Age of Poker, he could hardly write about the genre without experiencing online poker play, which could very well have been the Rubicon for his poker writing career. A fan of playing multiple tables at once, Roland has also fully researched (naturally) and dipped into the affiliate side of online poker as well.
Poker writing as a full time career has been replaced with poker playing, and the freedom success has afforded Roland allows him to pursuit the game he plays so well.
