J.C. Tran at World Poker Tour Foxwoods

J.C. Tran was the man who couldn't win at the World Poker Tour. He was a pro player that proved himself time and time again as he made final table after final table without winning. He finally secured his victory May 2007 in Reno, but if Day One at the 2007 WPT Foxwoods event is any indication, his WPT curse isn't over yet.

The day was going well for Tran as he built his stack with his typical patient and excellent play. It was the last hand before dinner at table 39 and Tran was looking at a flop with two nines and a five. He and one other player were involved in the pot, with the unnamed fellow all in, and out chipped by Tran.

As they went to turn over the cards Tran showed his Jack Nine for a crushing Trip Nine hand. The opponent, conceding defeat, tossed his hand face down at the dealer and walked off—clearly mucking his hand.

The dealer, however, thought it would be a good idea to turn the cards face up, revealing Ace Seven. He was crushed, certainly, but then the dealer dealt the final two cards, which were an Eight and a Six…giving the absent player a runner runner straight! Tran was, naturally, incensed, and requested a floor man over to make a ruling.

As the cards never hit the muck and the player was all in, it was decided that the hand was live, the straight was good, and the pot shipped to the hastily recalled player.

Tran, knocked down to $27k in tourney chips, continued to slide, but managed to survive the day with about $24k.
