In the first of two updates this week guidetopoker looks back at Events 5-11 of the 2008 WSOP which included the largest Omaha Hi-Low split tournament in history.

Event 5 June 3rd - June 5th

Result - American Michael Banduci won his first WSOP bracelet and his eighth WSOP cash when he beat fellow American Jeff Williams heads-up. Banduci won the title when Williams moved in with Ace 5 and Banduci called with his Ace Jack.
Event 6 June 3rd - June 5th
Omaha Hi-Lo Split 8-or-Better

Result - In the largest Omaha Hi-Low Split tournament in History Thang Luu a 33-year-old who lives in Las Vegas won the $243,342 first prize when he beat Englishman Spencer Lawrence heads-up. Luu managed to go one better than his second-placed finished in the WSOP Omaha Hi-Lo event last year.

No-Limit Hold'em

Result - Only the fifth tournament to be carried in a live broadcast format saw American Matt Keikoan beat countryman Shannon Shorr heads-up to take down a handsome first prize of $550,529.
Event 8 June 4th - June 6th
World Championship Mixed Event

Prize Pool $1,804,000
Result - For the first time in history a major poker tournament included eight poker games that would rotate every eight hands. The field was made up of superstars and was expected to be the second hardest field in this year's WSOP. This was perhaps easy to see when four former bracelet winners made the final table. The winner of the event however, and winning their first bracelet, was Anthony Rivera who beat fellow American James Mackey heads up to take home $483,663.

No-Limit Hold'em 6 Handed

Prize Pool $1,687,140
Result - In this event which concentrates on playing short-handed, American Rep Porter beat countryman Nathan Templeton heads up to take down $372,843 after Porter's King Queen beat Templeton's King 9 in the final hand of the tournament.
Event 10 June 5th - June 7th
Omaha 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8-or-better

Prize Pool $892,400
Result - For the second time this year a tournament was decided with a player getting quads on the river in the final hand. The fortunate man was American Farzad Rouhani who beat Tom Chambers to the first prize of $232,911.
Event 11 June 6th - June 8th
No-Limit Hold'em Shootout

Prize Pool $1,692,000
Result - In a tournament in which the winner must ultimatly win through three sit-and-go tables to win the event American Phil Tom saw off Canadian Greg Mueller heads up when a Jack came on the flop and Tom was holding Ace Jack and Mueller Jack 8. Tom won $477,990 and of course the all important bracelet.
