To say that Chris Ferguson is the short stack in an event means that the rest of the players must know a thing or two about poker, and that was the case around dinner time at the Casino at the Empire, where the first ever World Series of Poker Europe event was taking place.

Ferguson was hanging on with around 12,000 chips and only 23 players remaining, still plenty of ground to cover before getting down to an eight player final table. The three tables left running boasted a laundry list of fantastic poker players, many of whom had traveled from the United States, Australia and elsewhere to play, but plenty still from the "neighborhood" of the UK.

Mark Vos (Australia), showing plenty of strength during this event, was sitting in third chip position, with Joe Beevers and Barny Boatman- two of the four celebrated members of the Hendon Mob (UK) with plenty of chips left.

From the US were Kirk Morrison, John Juanda, Jeff Madsen and Jennifer Harman, among others.

Conspicuously missing from this list was Phil "poker brat" Hellmuth, who swore up and down he would be the first to walk away with a WSOP bracelet from outside the US.

In the end it was down to the final eight—here are their names and chip counts:

1- Jennifer Harman - 204,000
2- Yuval Bronshtein - 185,500
3- Kirk Morrison - 172,500
4- Chris Ferguson - 142,500
5- Thomas Bihl - 130,500
6- Alex Kravchenko - 114,500
7- Joe Beevers - 74,500
8- Gary Jones - 30,000

There are two more WSOP Europe events to come, a Pot Limit Omaha and the No Limit Hold'em Main Event.

(Editor's Note: Hellmuth may have busted out but he is still a force to be reckoned with. Play him yourself at Ultimate Betand find out.)
