The World Poker Open is one of the more popular East Coast destinations for the World Poker Tour, and Tunica is getting used to the flood of locals and flown- in talent that come to play at the Gold Strike Casino. The World Poker Open Main Event will run from January 20th through January 24th, but there preliminary events running from January 3rd through the 19th, which is typical of a WPT event, some of which can last an entire month.

The World Poker Tour started out not by hosting their own poker tournaments, but rather by partnering with existing poker tournaments in various venues and putting them on TV. Naturally they help by bringing lots of attention to the various events, which in turn brings more custom to the casinos, so everybody wins. The biggest winners, however, are the players – the WPT has minted more than fifty millionaires, and they crank out nearly a million dollars on each and every first prize give away.
