One of the most popular events during any World Poker Tour season is the Ladies Night competition, where five pro poker players – women all – are invited to come and compete for the title, along with one player who qualified the old fashioned way to be there. Now the WPT has expanded on the idea to increase the Ladies exposure to poker, and to do a little good for others.
This year the World Poker Tour has announced they will be having a WPT Ladies tour, with individual events in various locations each being a leg of the tour. This is how the WPT started out – not by creating new events and grouping them together, but by making deals with existing events and adding plenty of cash and TV cameras to it all.
The WPTL will raise money to help the fight against breast cancer, and to that effect has joined forces with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a grass roots network fighting for the same goal. Donations are collected at all the vents and 15% of the buy ins will go towards the charity.
Speaking of buy ins these are going to be a little cheaper than typical WPT events: rather than a $10k buy in players will look to spend about $1,500 per event or less, some as low as $300.
We are not sure if there are online qualifiers to the WPTL events as of yet, but if there is going to be you can be sure to find them at WPT online, where you can play online poker with fellow fans of the World Poker Tour.
The first event was January 20 at the Borgata for $300. The rest of the events are:
February 2, Commerce Casino, $970; March 16, Bay 101, $300; March 29, Foxwooods, $530, and the championship event on April 13th at the Bellagio, for $1,500.
