Phillips comes from a humble background; he is a truck salesman from Cottage Hills in Illinois. He has only ever cashed in one major poker tournament before, and indeed qualified for the main event by playing a $200 satellite at his local Harrah's casino in St Louis. That $200 is by far and away the best he has ever spent with him already paid the prize of $900,670 for reaching the final table.

Phillips who was obviously on a major roll at the time of the main event's suspension would have been happy for the event to have continued and to have had a chance for his hot streak to carry on.

When asked about how he was feeling about having to wait a few months before the final table he said "I am so hyper and ready to go. I've been on a roll here lately. I would love to continue it. But I understand it, I don't have any problem with it."

So will this true David v Goliath story come out in Phillips' favour or will he find the biggest poker tournament of his life too much to take. Well everyone will find the answer to that when the November Nine face each other in a few months time.
