A man has surrendered to German police in relation to the EPT Berlin robbery. Police confirmed the man was being held over the high-stakes poker tournament heist which netted the thieves nearly a quarter of a million euros.
A spokesman for the police in Berlin said; "I can confirm that a 21-year-old man presented himself to prosecutors on Monday." The spokesman confirmed that German authorities were confident of catching the outstanding villians, "We know exactly whom we're looking for. Sooner or later we will get the other guys."
The robbery took place during live filming of the European Poker Tour at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Berlin. A gang armed with machine guns, a grenade and a machete stormed the hotel, sending poker players and staff fleeing in fear.
Police arrested a suspect over the raid last week but were forced to release a man due to a lack of evidence. The Berlin force remained confident of catching their men, though. One police official has said the gang had plumbed "new depths of stupidity to carry out such a raid in front of running surveillance cameras."
