GUKPT Leg 3 Update

Monday 23rd March 2009

Events so far….Heads Up Championship…12,000 starting stack for the main event.

Leg 3 of the 2009 GUKPT is now well underway. The opening event, a £300 NL Hold'em freezeout had a field of 170 runners and was won by Karen Franks, an American who lives in London. This was followed by the £500 PL Omaha Hi-Lo event, which was won by Jon Shoreman, who defeated a field of 53 players. The £500 NL Hold'em freezeout attracted 161 players and reigning Walsall main event champion Sunny Chattha almost clocked up his second victory of the year, but fell just short, finishing as runner up to Thomas MacDonald.

The London Heads Up Championship has also been taking place over the last few days and there are just two players left, who will contest the final on Wednesday afternoon. Pre-tournament favourite Richard Gryko has made it to the final, where he will take on Tom Bentham. Bentham, a high stakes online cash player, has received a lot of the support and has been installed as the new 4/6 favourite to win the tournament by bookmaker

Blue Square. Play commences at 3pm on Wednesday 25th March.

Due to the increased buy-in for the leg 3 main event, it has been decided to also increase the starting stack. All players will now receive 12,000 starting chips rather than the usual 10,000 that is issued for most GUKPT main events. There are still three live super satellites left for the £1,500 main event at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino in London. At 2pm on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th there are £80 rebuy super satellites and at 8pm on Wednesday 25th there is a £250 freezeout super satellite. The freezeout super satellite is restricted to 80 players plus alternates, so players are advised to buy-in at the earliest possible opportunity.
