To say Gus Hansen had a bad month would be an understatement. He got off to a bad start losing almost $1.5 Million by mid-month and when it looked like it couldn’t get any worse, it did.
Gus Hansen would fall victim to the “Tiger Woods of Poker” Phil Ivey and CardRunners instructor Cole South for a record $1.1 Million loss in a single day. Ivey and Cole South would both take about $350,000 each from the Great Dane while playing Omaha Hi/Lo $2K/$4K fixed limit blinds. He would lose the rest of this record sum playing the Mixed Games on Full Tilt.
Gus Hansen is the Biggest Loser Online
Gus Hansen currently holds the record that no one wants – online poker’s biggest loser! He has lost a record $9 Million playing online poker since formal high stakes records began in 2007.
The only other person to have possibly lost more than Hansen would be Cirque de Soleil founder and billionaire Guy Laliberte who is reputed to have lost as much as $20 Million under different online account names.
Either way, Gus has definitely lost way more online than any other poker pro around.
Hansen was made famous by the World Poker Tour and the Aussie Millions where his willingness to gamble and amazing finishes have netted him the tune of $7.5 Million. He was also the founder of the early online poker room pokerchamps.com which his partner and himself sold for $15 Million. For several years he has been a sponsored pro at Full Tilt Poker, which must pay him a good sum as he is one of poker’s most famous players.
Although $9 Million is a huge chunk of cash to lose, it probably isn’t the end of the world for Gus Hansen. We think that it may be time for him to turn off his computer and realize that his mastery of the game comes from live tournament play.
