Irish poker giants, Paddy Power Poker, have raised a huge €20,000 for the homeless during their March madness weekend. The Capuchin Day Centre and Dublin's homeless community will benefit from the money raised.
The fundraiser, held at Dublin’s Jackpot Club from March the 12th to 14th, managed to beat last year’s efforts. A Staggering amount considering the poor economic climate in Ireland.
97 players took to the felt for the Friday night freezeout while a 104 players participated in the Sunday team even, creating 26 teams in total taking part.
Ambassador for the fundraising poker festival, Padraig Parkinson, said: "We'll probably double last year's total of EUR 10,000 which, in the current economic climate, shows that Irish poker players have real heart.
"Thanks to everyone who played, worked at, supported, and donated to the fundraising effort. With some donations still to come in, we're confident we'll hit around EUR 20,000 for the weekend and will publish the accounts online just after the Irish Open."
