Police Draw Blank in EPT Berlin Raid

After a week of investigations and one arrest, German police are no nearer to finding the gang that raided the Grand Hyatt hotel in Berlin during the European Poker Tour.

A man was arrested last Friday on suspicion of the robbery but police were forced to release him today without charge despite their "strong suspicions" that he was indeed involved in the robbery.

Police declined to identify the man as investigations continue but an anonymous source said; "The suspect has been set free due to a lack of evidence. The suspect, who was detained late Friday, denied throughout several hours in questioning having taken part in the heist at the Grand Hyatt hotel in the capital.

The daring robbery, described as "something from Ocean's 11", took place during play last weekend.  Players and staff alike fled for their lives after the armed gang, brandishing machine guns, hand grenades and a machete burst into the building with their eyes firmly on the tournament prize money.  A reported €240,000 was stolen with seven people slightly hurt in the incident.  Although understandably shaken up, all players in the event were paid out correctly at the conclusion of the event.
