Viktor “Isildur1” Blom Crushes Daniel Cates for $343,000

Viktor “Isildur1” Blom faced off against his nemesis Daniel Cates beating him badly for a total of $343,000

What is most remarkable about this win was that it was played at blinds of $25/$50 Pot Limit Omaha meaning that Isildur1 won a total of 69 buy-ins and in the process delivered a convincing thrashing to his rival.

The two faced off at PokerStars where Cates goes by the nickname “w00ki3z”.  He is better known as “jungleman12” on Full Tilt Poker.

The two have battled many times before and are developing quite a rivalry.  Isildur1 originally beat jungleman12 at Full Tilt Poker on his rise to the top.  Eventually, Isildur1 would fall and Cates would take over as one of the most feared heads-up players around.  He got his revenge when Isildur1 made his return to Full Tilt a year later and let the wonder kid know there was a new star in town.

He would even appear at PokerStars after Isildur1’s signing to take him on again.

The rivalry would come to a head when Cates challenged Isildur1 to a SuperStar Showdown which pitted the two against each other for a 2,500 hand match.  Isildur1 would emerge victorious winning $50,000 back in the process.

And that’s where we stand coming into the latest match-up with Cates looking for revenge.

The two played just over 2,000 hands in a game that saw some wild swings with 3-betting pre-flop being the norm!  These two players rank amongst the most aggressive in the poker world, so it is no wonder how crazy things got.

The largest hand would go to Isildur1 when he won $172,000 with a full house to Cates’ smaller full house.  This hand gives a great example of just how crazy the action got with these two ultra-aggressive players going head-to-head.

Both players were deep with Isildur1 having a $110,000 stack to w00ki3z’ $86,000 stack.  W00ki3z held the button and raised only to be 3-bet up to $450 by Isildur1.

The flop came 9h3d3s and Isildur1 led out $900 for the pot, w00ki3z put in a raise to bring it to $2,000.  Isildur1 re-raised to $4,450, w00ki3z bumped it to $8,900 and Isildur1 now 5-bet to $15,800 with w00ki3z making the call.

The turn brought a 2h and gave w00ki3z a smaller full house with his AsJc3h2c to Isildur1’s flopped full with Th9d7c3c.  The pot stood at $32,500 and Isildur1 bet $16,700 to be called by w00ki3z who was now laying a trap with what he thought was the better hand.

The river brought a 5s and the pot was just under $66,000.  Isildur1 put w00ki3z all in for his remaining $53,000 to show him the bad news and scoop the massive $172,000 pot.

Isildur1 is now back in the black for over $200,000 since signing with PokerStars.  This is a huge turnaround as he initially got off to a terrible start at the site dropping $650,000 in no time at all.
