WSOPE Down to Final Table for Event #1 – Six Max No Limit Hold’em

We are down to the final table of the 1st event of the WSOPE for 2010.  Event #1 is the Six Handed No Limit Hold'em tournament championship.

Perhaps the biggest name and most popular player to make the last six is Phil Laak who has showed up in London donning a new Mohawk hairstyle and has decorated his cast on his broken arm with the Union Jack to please the British home crowd.

The Swede Chris Bjorin has now made a record 5th WSOPE cash and has won almost $5 million in live tournament winnings.  He will be 2nd in chips going into the final day and will be a force to be reckoned with.

The Canadian Andrew Pantling, who came into the day with the chip lead, has managed to continue his early run and make it to the final table with almost twice as many chips as 2nd place.

Pantling is no stranger to winning big events having won the EPT Monte Carlo Heads Up No Limit Hold'em event earlier this year.

Here are the chip counts for the start of the final table:

Andrew Pantling – 627,500
Chris Bjorin – 368,500
Phil Laak – 317,000
David Peters – 251,500
Ilan Rouah – 200,000
Willie Tann – 72,000

With almost 250 entrants, including many of poker’s best entering the event, making the final table in itself is a huge accomplishment.  Big names like Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth were all present at the start of the event but were unable to make it past Day 1.

This is the 1st time that the WSOPE has featured a 6 max event and it has been a huge hit with all the players who shelled out £2,650 to take part.

The winner of the event will receive £170,000 payout for their accomplishment as well as the 1st of the coveted WSOPE bracelets for 2010.
